What you can enjoy in this program

Few minutes walk from Nijo castle, Nijo Jin-ya is one of Kyoto's hidden gems often overlooked by visitors. Built in 1660 as an inn for provincial feudal lords visiting the near-by castle, this house has many interesting things such as hidden stairways, secret passageways, a drop-down ladder, and other counter espionage devices. (One hour tour is conducted at 1000, 1100, 1400 and 1500 hrs. Reservation required)
*Please note that , from May 2009, Nijo jinya are closed for the 3 year renovation. We will make this tour available when the renovation is completed. Thank you

Procedure

  1. Please choose your preferred time of the tour from 1000, 1100, 1400, and 1500 hrs when booking with WAKJAPAN. The house is closed on Wednesdays except when a holiday falls on a Wednesday. It is a popular place so it is better to book as early as possible.
  2. WAKJAPAN issues a CONFIRMATION as soon as securing a seat in a tour.
  3. Please come to Nijo Jin-ya by yourself and meet with a WAKJAPAN English speaking attendant who will interpret what a resident guide explains.
  4. Enjoy seeing many interesting devices by joining a tour.
