What you can enjoy in this program

WAKJAPAN's continuing close relationship with temples makes it possible for WAKJAPAN visitors to enter temples not normally open to the public. Away from a huge traffic of tourists, you can meet with one of the monks who can tell you about the temple over a cup of Japanese tea and traditional sweets in a tranquil atmosphere. You can ask about the the temple you visit, the religion (Buddhism) in general, etc. You can even ask about a typical day of a Monk.This course is for those who want to learn more than guidebook information. The temple visits normally takes 1 to 1.5 hours

Please note that we may use a well-known temple taking sightseers, but we make sure that you will be treated special by taking you to a special part at the temple closed to the public or outside open hours, then offering you a chance to meet with a monk privately.

Included in the fee:
1. Admission to the temple, tour by a monk, Japanese tea and sweet.
2. Interpretation by WAKJAPAN English speaking attendant.
Price varies depending on a temple to visit. Also please note that, once the visit is confirmed, cancellation must be avoided by all means.

Procedure

  1. Your attendant comes to your hotel lobby and depart together by taxi or subway or bus (travel cost is to be paid by client on the spot)
    The attendant introduce many things, basic information about Temples, Kyoto and Japan.
  2. Arrive at the temple and meet with a monk and enjoy the private tour of the temple with many interesting furniture, tools, etc. Then you can ask questions to the monk about his life in a temple, etc.
  3. Depending on your request, Zazen (silent meditation) and/or Talk on Zen Buddhism can be arranged in addition to general tour of temples.
  4. After about 1 hour, you depart the temple and our service terminates here and our attendant leaves you here.
    If requested, our attendant is happy to call a taxi for you or show you how to go to the next destination.
