Home Visit & Culture Experience Program

You may wonder why Japanese tea ceremony is so special and unique. Our professional tea master can give you a full explanation of Japanese tea and tea ceremony, and its relation with Zen Buddhism.
The tea master can tell you how our each movement of making and serving tea mean to guests.
Customers can enjoy tasting Japanese dessert and tea. They can even enjoy making tea.

 

What you can enjoy in this program

Customers are taken to a private home. Then the tea instructor will explain about tea history and tools/utensils used for conducting a tea ceremony. Then the instructor will show how to make tea and customers now can try making tea by themselves with the help of the instructor. It is a good opportunity to try and find out Japanese people's aestheticism in a tranquil atmosphere.

16,000 yen per person (based on 1 participant)
11,500 yen per person (based on 2 participants or more)

1. Extra charge will be required for the program outside business hours (Our business hours: 09:30-18:30)
2. Programs will be shortened if customers are late for the meeting time due to personal reasons.
3. We may have to use public transportation, depending on the location of your hotel.
4. Maximum: approximately 9 people (Customers may be divided into several groups depending on the number)
5. No discount for children.
6. Other foreign language speaking staff than English can be arranged at an extra charge.
7. Observers will be charged a full price as well.

Kinue Terada
Kinue has been learning tea ceremony for as long as 40 years and her expertise will surely satisfy customers' needs to learn about tea ceremony with more details than just experiencing and enjoying tea ceremony.
 

Procedure

  1. Your attendant pick you up to your hotel lobby.
  2. You move to your instructor's house with the attendant by chartered taxi.
    The attendant introduce many things, basic information about tea ceremony, Kyoto and Japan.
    Note: We may have to use public transportation, depending on the location of your hotel or your instructor's house.
  3. Arrive at the house, and start the experience.As you arrive at the house, your instructor meet you. She/He introduces about her/himself firstly, your introduction, and then start a basic lecture about tea history.
  4. You move to a tea room.The instructor shows how to sit on Japanese style room formally, and then she prepares tea ceremony.
    You have the experience of tea gathering with talking sometimes and with silence sometimes.
  5. After listen to her explanation and look how to do tea ceremony, now it is your turn. You make powdered green tea by yourself with your instructor's support.
  6. Relax after the tea ceremony, spend your time with the instructor with Q & A, listen to her house explanation while waiting a taxi come.
    Note: We may have to use public transportation, depending on the location of your hotel or your instructor's house.
  7. Your taxi comes to the house. You leave your instructor's house and go back to your hotel with the attendant.

Culture Experience Short Program

For those who do not have enough time for home-visit course, WAK JAPAN offers Short experience programs. The courses are run of workshop basis and many people (maximum about 10 people) can share a program at the same time.
