Home Visit & Culture Experience Program

Learn how to cook typical Japanese dishes such as Tempura (deep-fried food), Sushi and other healthy home favorites at Japanese private homes with recipes written in English. Then, enjoy having them!

 

What you can enjoy in this program

Customers can enjoy making typical Japanese dishes and eating them. You can make either "Sushi and Tempura" as a main course, plus other side dishes such as miso soup, salad. Customers can learn typical Japanese dishes putting emphasis on nutrition balance and the way the foods are presented, and the seasonal ingredients. It is a great way of finding out Japanese people's everyday life. A tool for making sushi and a recipe are presented.

3-3.5 hours (including round-trip taxi transfers)

17,000 yen per person (based on 1 participant)
12,000 yen per person (based on 2 participants or more)

1. Extra charge will be required for the program outside business hours (Our business hours: 09:30-18:30)
2. Programs will be shortened if customers are late for the meeting time due to personal reasons.
3. We may have to use public transportation, depending on the location of your hotel.
4. Maximum: approximately 9 people (Customers may be divided into several groups depending on the number)
5. No discount for children.
6. Other foreign language speaking staff than English can be arranged at an extra charge.
7. Observers will be charged a full price as well.

Haruyo Sugimura
Haruyo has English teaching license and she wants to introduce Japanese home cooking to foreign people. Japanese dishes are well known as they are low in calorie but highly nutritious. Haruyo's philosophy is "Good food makes a good person"
 

Procedure

  1. Your attendant pick you up to your hotel lobby.
  2. You move to your instructor's house with the attendant by chartered taxi.
    The attendant introduce many things, basic information about cooking lesson, Kyoto and Japan.
  3. As you arrive at the house, your instructor meet you. She/He introduces about her/himself firstly, and you will introduce yourself as well. Then start a basic lecture about a history of Japanese food.
  4. Let’s start cooking with ingredient's comments.She/He also explains Japanese regions food culture.
  5. You use some ingredients that you can find them easily in your country. You cook about 3 meals. And it is now the time to taste!
    Over the meal, you can enjoy conversation with the cooking instructor.
  6. Your taxi comes to the house. You leave your instructor's house and go back to your hotel with the attendant.
 

Option

  • Tea Ceremony, Flower arrangement, Calligraphy, Japanese Dance, Kimon-Wearing, Koto-Playing, Japanese Language Lesson, Origami, Japanese Antiques, Fabric or Paper Craft. This course is ideal for those wanting to do a little more than just one experience.
  • Enjoy two courses at one time at a greatly reduced price.

Culture Experience Short Program

For those who do not have enough time for home-visit course, WAK JAPAN offers Short experience programs. The courses are run of workshop basis and many people (maximum about 10 people) can share a program at the same time.
